The Power of Equine Assisted Therapy

Emotional Resilience

Horses respond naturally and honestly to human emotions, offering genuine feedback that promotes emotional awareness and growth. Through equine assisted sessions, clients learn to identify and manage their feelings, develop effective coping strategies, and build the confidence and inner strength needed to navigate life’s challenges with greater balance.

Stress Management

The calming presence of horses, combined with a peaceful outdoor environment, creates an ideal space for relaxation and restoration. Nature-based counselling allows the nervous system to reset while clients learn practical tools to manage anxiety, overwhelm, and everyday stress in a supportive and tranquil setting.
Note: We also offer
room-based therapy on-site.

Social Connection & Communication

Horses are intuitive and responsive beings that reflect human behaviour and emotion. Working alongside them fosters empathy, enhances non-verbal communication skills, and helps build more authentic and meaningful relationships — both within and beyond the paddock.

Self-Awareness & Personal Growth

The unique combination of equine therapy and nature offers powerful opportunities for self-discovery. Clients become more present, grounded, and mindful, while time spent in nature encourages reflection and personal insight that supports lasting, positive change.

At MPEAT, we believe in the profound healing power of horses. Nestled on a peaceful farm in Tyabb, Victoria, our practice offers a calming and supportive space where individuals can connect with these remarkable animals. Our mission is to provide compassionate, personalised equine-assisted therapy that nurtures emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

Our sessions are tailored to suit individuals of all ages - children, teens, and adults - who may be navigating mental health challenges, psychosocial or developmental disorders, or physical disabilities. Through guided interaction with horses, clients experience improved confidence, emotional regulation, communication skills, and self-awareness.

Horses are naturally attuned to human emotion and behaviour. Their gentle, non-judgmental presence creates a powerful therapeutic dynamic that encourages growth, healing, and connection. Whether you're seeking support for yourself, your child, or a loved one, MPEAT offers a welcoming, inclusive environment where every individual is treated with care and respect.

We are more than a therapy provider - we are a community committed to wellness, empathy, and empowerment through the unique relationship between horse and human.

About Us

What is it?

Equine-Assisted Therapy is a gentle, experiential approach to therapy that involves working alongside horses as active partners in the therapeutic process. Rather than focusing only on talking, sessions invite clients to learn about themselves through guided activities and interactions with horses.

Horses are highly sensitive and responsive beings. Their natural ability to reflect human emotions, boundaries, and patterns offers powerful opportunities for insight, connection, and change. Sessions are facilitated by a qualified practitioner and take place in a calm, private outdoor environment designed to feel both physically and emotionally safe.

Through carefully facilitated activities, clients are supported to explore thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships in the moment. This hands-on, embodied approach can help deepen self-awareness, build confidence, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen communication and relationship skills.

Equine-Assisted Therapy provides a supportive, non-judgemental space where curiosity is encouraged and each client’s pace is respected. All sessions are trauma-informed and tailored to the individual, recognising that meaningful growth often happens through experience rather than words alone.

Horses are deeply present, intuitive animals who respond to what is happening in the moment. They do not judge or analyse — instead, they offer honest, immediate feedback through their behaviour and responses to the energy, emotions, and intentions around them.

Each horse is unique, with their own personality, preferences, strengths, sensitivities, and ways of communicating. As prey and herd animals, horses are naturally attuned to their environment and to one another. This heightened awareness means they are highly responsive to subtle changes — emotionally, physically, and relationally.

Horses rely on connection, boundaries, cooperation, and trust for safety and survival within the herd. When humans interact with them, these same themes often come into focus. Horses naturally reflect how we show up — how we relate, communicate, manage emotions, hold boundaries, and respond to stress or uncertainty.

Because of this, working with horses can offer powerful insights into our patterns, beliefs, and relationships. Without words, horses invite us into greater self-awareness, presence, and authenticity. Through this process, clients are supported to learn about themselves in a way that feels experiential, meaningful, and often deeply transformative.

Horses can gently guide us toward connection, learning, and growth — creating space for change that is felt, embodied, and lasting.
